The New Moon in Virgo

TODAY begins a new lunar cycle with a new moon in Virgo – the sign of the temple priestess, healer and natural counselor.
Virgo essence is that of love, healing, and nourishment. Virgos remind us that how we live our daily life, how we serve others, and how we approach our work can be an outward example of our inner temple.
As I tuned into what I wanted to share about Virgo and read through the booklets for last year, I realized that what I wanted to share the most is about Virgo’s humility.
In whatever her chosen profession, the Virgo goddess maintains a standard of excellence that is outstanding. She often the best because she chooses to be at her best – being in service to those who are in need.
In direct conflict with what I read on the internet, humility is not ‘pushing away’ recognition, it is not low self-esteem or a lack of worthiness. It is, rather, a graceful art of receiving well-earned acknowledgement.
Webster’s says it is “the freedom from pride or arrogance.” I love how the word freedom weaves its way into the mix…there is a ‘knowing’ with Virgo that discipline (and order) bring freedom. And again, it might feel like a mystery to the rest of us, but there is a lot of wisdom inherent in their ways.
As we enter into the Virgo New Moon this week, we are connecting with an energy that has been recognized through all cultures throughout all time. I would not be surprised to learn that the Virgo energy, connected so deeply to the earth, might have been the very first goddess to emerge.
The lunar cycle starting with the Virgo New Moon invites our prayers to become more graceful, more detailed, and more intentional. This is a great time to offer healing prayers for those who you know are in need – this new moon will nourish them – including our Earth!
In your personal life, this is the month to get in touch with your Inner Goddess of Healing, Health, and Service. What areas of your life are powerfully aligned with Virgo? How are you incorporating healing energy into your daily routines? How are you taking care of your own needs and then helping others?
Virgo energy is sensitive. There’s a need for privacy that is only rivaled by our dear Scorpios! Essentially, I believe that Virgo Vulnerability is quite profound. When we open to our greatest healing (Virgo/6th house), we open up to the deepest wounds that we have experienced in this lifetime or another. Since Chiron was ‘discovered’ in the 1970’s, many astrologers have wanted to make this the ‘ruler’ of Virgo. Understanding how our vulnerabilities are our greatest strengths is Chiron’s journey as well. Either way, this is THE time to acknowledge how your wounds and vulnerabilities have either supported your journey or held you back in some way. Understanding the healing journey is part of the New Moon experience.
All of us can call on the part of our chart that houses Virgo for guidance and create intentional ritual (Virgo likes that) to support wellness on all levels. Understanding the levels of health, healing and wellness is a great start. Digging deeper and refining your details – the how’s and why’s – is an even more powerful way to use this energy.
It’s time to make sense of your life in practical ways.
